waar komt de naam
"Eponymous" is een Engels woord dat volgens de Oxford English Dictionary verwijst naar iets dat vernoemd is (of waarnaar vermoed wordt dat het vernoemd is) naar een echt of fictief persoon. In het Nederlands betekent het "naamgevend" of "titelgevend". Een eponiem is de naam van een persoon, echt of fictief, die wordt gebruikt om een bepaald object of activiteit aan te duiden. Don Quichote, bijvoorbeeld, is de eponymous held van Don Quichote van Cervante. De band R.E.M. heeft als grap in plaats van hun best-of CD een "eponymous" titel te geven, de titel "Eponymous" gebruikt.

Eponymous is het geesteskind van Gene Madlon, een Amerikaan die al bijna tien jaar in Nederland woont. Gene heeft een uitgebreide taalachtergrond. Hij behaalde zijn bachelor in de Engelse literatuur aan Pace University, New York, en volgt momenteel een masteropleiding Amerikanistiek aan de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen.
Gene raakte door verschillende ervaringen ge⎪ntereseerd in het vak van vertalen. In zijn werk als technisch redacteur bij een groot Nederlands softwarebedrijf verrichtte hij voortdurend vertalingen en gaf hij trainingen engels aan zijn collega\'s. Zijn beide tweetalige kinderen las (en leest) hij vaak hun Nederlandstalige verhaaltjes voor in het Engels; zo trainde hij op een heel andere manier zijn vaardigheden in beide talen. Gene besloot enkele jaren geleden zijn passie voor vertaalwerk te combineren met zijn ervaring als redacteur en besloot voor zichzelf te beginnen; Eponymous werd geboren.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines the term "eponymous" as something that is named (or believed to be named) for a person, real or fictional. Don Quixote, for example, is the eponymous hero of Cervante’s Don Quixote, while the Salk vaccine is the eponymous name of the polio vaccination discovered by Dr. Jonah Salk.
who is
Eponymous is the brainchild of Gene Madlon, an American expat who has made his residence in the Netherlands for the better part of a decade. Gene has an extensively language-focused background, having earned his Bachelor’s degree in English literature at Pace University in New York, and is currently finishing his work towards his Master's degree in American Studies at Radboud University Nijmegen.
Gene became interested in translation in a rather unique way. He took on an increasing amount of translation work in his function as a technical editor at a major Dutch software company, to the point that translation became a major focus of his daily work. As a father of two bilingual children, he was often asked to read their favorite Dutch-language bedtime stories in English; a request that challenged his skills in both languages simultaneously.
Eventually, Gene decided to combine his newfound love of translation work with his skills as a text editor and copywriter and struck out on his own. Thus, Eponymous was born.
